All-glass railings

All-glass railings, also known as self-supporting glass railings, represent the perfect combination of modern aesthetics, safety, and functionality. This design element not only fulfills its protective function but also contributes to a sense of unrestricted space and allows maximum light penetration. Below, we will explore the advantages of all-glass railings, the options for their design and anchoring, safety aspects, and maintenance. Self-supporting glass railings can be installed both outdoors and indoors.

Advantages of All-Glass Railings

All-glass railings are becoming an increasingly popular choice for modern interiors and exteriors. The main advantages include:

  • High light transmission: Glass does not obstruct the passage of light, allowing for better illumination of the space and highlighting other design elements.
  • Aesthetic purity: Transparent glass creates a sense of open, uninterrupted space.
  • Easy maintenance: Glass surfaces are easy to clean and maintain, ensuring their long-term beauty and functionality.

Design Options

All-glass railings are custom-made and offer a wide range of designs that can be tailored to specific requirements:

  • Types of glass: You can choose from clear, extra-clear, tinted, frosted, smoked, or sandblasted glass. Glass can be combined with inserted colored foils. Other options include printing graphic patterns on the glass.
  • Types of anchoring: Glass railings can be anchored using stainless steel discs or linear U-profiles. These profiles are made of aluminum or galvanized steel.
  • Customized to the specific composition: If the railing is installed where there is a more complex composition, we will design an optimal substructure that ensures the railing is at the optimal height and statically compliant. The solution also includes subsequent cladding and fitting with adjacent structures.

Safety and Standards

Safety is a key factor in all-glass railings:

  • Laminated and tempered glass: Laminated (VSG) and thermally tempered glass (ESG) are used to ensure high durability and safety. In interiors, VSG ESG 88.2 (thickness 16.76 mm) is most commonly used. In exterior applications, thicker glass such as VSG ESG 1010.2 (thickness 20.76 mm) may be used due to high wind loads.
  • For extreme loads as well: We also have experience in supplying all-glass railings for the highest load level C5, which is used for sports halls. Check out our project at O2 Universum Prague. Here, each meter of railing is designed for a load of 500 kg!
  • Legislation: In the Czech Republic, the standard ČSN 743305 sets the height of railings according to the risk of free fall and other requirements for railings. Read more in our article on the requirements for glass railings.

Maintenance of All-Glass Railings

Maintaining glass railings is simple:

  • Cleaning: Glass is easily maintained with a damp cloth.
  • Surface protection: Special nanotechnology-based products can be used to protect against fingerprints and water scale buildup.
